He took that approach to the San José Planning Commission, where he pushed to build hundreds of affordable homes. Then Anthony ran for City Council because he felt that too many in City Hall were more focused on special interests than our interests. Anthony’s dad, a machinist, was chronically ill and relied on Disability Insurance to get by. Thanks to quality public schools, Anthony made it to Yale and was the first in his family to graduate from college. Anthony chose to build a life in San José because he believes that with the right leadership, our city can be the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family.Anthony worked for over a decade in the private sector and learned that effective leadership comes from a combination of hard work, careful analysis, and a relentless attention to detail.Anthony is a fierce advocate in the fight for housing affordability. In 2022, Anthony was appointed by the City Council to represent District 3 on the San José Planning Commission, where he quickly gained a reputation for his preparedness and ability to get into the weeds on policy. He was instrumental in helping San José achieve a compliant Housing Element and worked tirelessly with the City on proposals to increase our supply of housing. After just a year on the commission, Anthony was elected by his fellow commissioners to serve as Chair.Anthony also served as the Co-President of the South University Neighborhood (SUN) in District 3. He's a believer in the power of San José neighborhoods.<h2>An Unlikely Victory</h2><img src="https://run.imgix.net/f4f455f9-2453-46a5-935c-0cfd58962665/2a042bc0-e7cb-4922-93af-479cd2074db5/2a042bc0-e7cb-4922-93af-479cd2074db5.heic?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C4284%2C5712&amp;w=1500" alt="" caption="" align="left" alignwidth="25" variant="base">On the Planning Commission and as his neighborhood president, Anthony saw how City Hall insiders and corrupt special interests prevented progress. So when his own councilmember violated the public's trust, Anthony took on the political establishment and won a seat on the City Council. Thanks to hundreds of neighbors, who knocked on tens of thousands of doors, Anthony won a stunning victory with almost 65% of the vote.<h2>Making Progress</h2>Anthony has only been on City Council for a few months, but he's already making real progress.<img src="https://run.imgix.net/f4f455f9-2453-46a5-935c-0cfd58962665/b87a0b54-9580-42a0-a51b-e515539f522e/b87a0b54-9580-42a0-a51b-e515539f522e.jpeg?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C4608%2C3072&amp;w=1500" alt="" caption="" align="right" alignwidth="35" variant="base">Homelessness is the biggest challenge we face. Anthony's pushing to do something about it. He helped the City complete its first-ever safe sleeping site, a critical step on the journey from homelessness to permanent housing. He’s also advocating for clean-up efforts in every neighborhood in District 3, because our parks, paths, and playgrounds should be clean and open to everyone.Anthony is working to address our housing crisis by enhancing neighborhood outreach, cutting through entrenched bureaucracy, and collaborating with county, regional, and state partners. Recently, Anthony helped break ground on the first 100% affordable high-rise in San José and introduced a policy that will make it faster and cheaper to build new homes in our city.And on public safety, Anthony successfully pushed to approve a new police budget that will put San José on track to hire more officers, so our streets are safe and clean for everyone.There's still a lot of work to be done. San José's streets need to be safer, we need to build more affordable housing, and put an end to our homelessness crisis. But thanks to Anthony's leadership, San José is on the right path.

I understand that housing affordability and the high cost of living are defining issues for our district. San José regularly tops the list of the most expensive cities in the country, and recently made national headlines when the median sale price of a single-family home crossed $2 million<a href="https://www.nar.realtor/newsroom/nearly-90-percent-of-metro-areas-saw-home-price-gains-in-Q2-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">[1]</a>. It’s no surprise that in a recent poll 96% of residents described the cost of housing as a serious issue<a href="https://jointventure.org/images/stories/pdf/sv-poll-2024-report-jvsv.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">[2]</a>, and 41% of renters are currently rent-burdened with 1 in 5 renters spending over half their income on housing<a href="https://www.sjsu.edu/hri/docs/2024%20SVPI_Final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">[3]</a>. In recent years the Bay Area has added about 5 jobs for every 1 new home, and researchers estimate the total shortfall at about 700,000 homes<a href="/api/pdf?filepath=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.spur.org%2Fsites%2Fdefault2021-05%2FSPUR_What_It_Will_Really_Take_To_Create_An_Affordable_Bay_Area_Report.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">[4]</a>. To keep up with demand, San José needs to build over 62,000 units in the next 8 years. But despite the clear evidence of a housing shortage, residential construction in San José has slowed, and the gap between supply and demand is growing. The status quo is not working, and we need leaders with new ideas and the expertise to see them through in order to build our way out of this crisis. On the Planning Commission, I have led efforts to add tens of thousands of units of residential capacity in urban villages and growth areas throughout the City, and have championed policies to make it faster and cheaper to build new housing. I’m ready to lead the fight against our affordability crisis by:<ul><li>Supporting new housing construction at all affordability levels, particularly in downtown and urban villages, to get run away price increases under control and eliminate our housing shortage.</li><li>Reducing unnecessary bureaucracy to make housing construction faster, cheaper, and more efficient.</li><li>Working with county, regional, and state partners to secure new funding sources for constructing permanently affordable housing.</li><li>Partnering with public agencies and nonprofits to acquire, rehabilitate, and preserve our existing supply of affordable housing.</li><li>Enabling more cost-effective construction methods via building code reform and simplification of design and development standards.</li><li>Reforming our neighborhood outreach and public comment procedures so that our neighbors are informed about new developments and have pathways to voice concerns.</li></ul><img src="https://run.imgix.net/f4f455f9-2453-46a5-935c-0cfd58962665/7e29d51b-408d-4ec8-b39f-f8fea0b6ff07/7e29d51b-408d-4ec8-b39f-f8fea0b6ff07.jpeg?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=0%2C0%2C4608%2C3072&amp;w=1500" alt="" caption="" align="center" alignwidth="50" variant="base">
